Entry requirements
The University of Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ welcomes a large volume of applications from Malaysian students each year. General minimum entry requirements for Malaysian applicants are summarised below. Please carefully check the specific requirements for your chosen programme via our website prior to application.
A-Levels/International Baccalaureate (IB)
If you are studying A-levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) then you can apply for direct entry to the first year of an undergraduate/bachelor’s degree.
Typical grade requirements:
- A-levels: A*AA – ABB
- IB: 34-38 points, with 7, 6, 6 – 6, 5, 5 in Higher Level (HL) subjects
Subject specific requirements may apply.
Undergraduate entry requirements
The entry requirements below are provided for guidance only. Requirements may vary by course and/or academic School.
Holders of A-levels or the International Baccalaureate (IBDP) at good grades are considered for entrance to undergraduate programmes. Please see the undergraduate course pages for standard entry requirements for individual programmes.
STPM is considered to be equivalent to A-levels on a grade for grade basis and applicants will also need to demonstrate English language proficiency.
The University can consider the Cambridge English Language syllabus 1119 at good grades as a recognised English language qualification for entry to undergraduate programmes.
College/Institute diplomas can sometimes be considered for entry to second year of certain bachelor degrees on a case by case basis. Please contact the International Office or the admissions staff for the programme to which you wish to apply for further information.
Applicants with the appropriate background from HELP University College, Taylor’s College and Brickfields Asia College can be considered for entry to the second year of the LLB at Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ School of Law.
The UEC can be considered, please contact the admissions team for your course of study.
The Malaysian Matriculation (Matrikulasi) can be considered for entry to courses at the University. Please contact the relevant admissions team.
Applicants with other qualifications are encouraged to contact the International Office or the admissions staff for the programme to which you wish to apply for further information.
PG Master's courses
Students with a good bachelor's degree (normally, a minimum GPA of 3.0) from a Malaysian university can be considered for entry to postgraduate degrees at Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ.
Applicants will also need to demonstrate English language proficiency.
Pre-requisites and additional requirements are specified on the programme descriptions.
MBA
The Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ MBA requires a minimum of three years’ professional work experience.

The University of Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ offers a range of one year master’s programmes that offer an attractive alternative to academically well-qualified students without suitable work experience.
PhD
Students with a good master's degree (normally, a minimum GPA of 3.0) from a Malaysian university can be considered for entry to postgraduate research at Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ.
Applicants will also need to demonstrate English language proficiency.
PhDs/Postgraduate research degrees are individually supervised. We strongly recommend that prospective applicants make initial enquiries with the potential supervisor or academic school before submitting a formal application. A research proposal is required along with your formal application.
English language requirements
All international students coming to study in the UK on a student route visa are required to demonstrate their proficiency in the English language.
The minimum English language requirements for each programme are specified in the course description.
We accept a range of global English tests (eg IELTS, TOEFL iBT). In addition, we may be able to consider English from Malaysian SPM CEFR Level C1 and above (from 2021 onwards), Malaysian 1119, IGCSE and IBDP depending on the overall score achieved. Some courses have English language requirements that are higher than the required level stated here. Please check the relevant course for details.

Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ Abroad
If you are currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student at any accredited university or college of higher education outside of the UK, you can apply to spend a semester or full year here at The University of Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ.
We offer year/semester abroad programmes as well as participating in a number of exchange partnerships with key European and worldwide universities. Most students joining us for study abroad do so in their third year (of a four-year degree) although we do also accept applications from second- and final-year students.
Minimum entry requirements for study abroad students are a cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.

Global Futures Scholarships 2026
The University of Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ is proud to offer more than 300 awards to international students starting their studies in September 2026. The total value of scholarships offered will be more than £6 million and are open to students applying for undergraduate and master’s degrees.
Undergraduate awards
We're proud to offer more than 100 merit-based undergraduate scholarships of up to £30,000 (£10,000 per year over three years) to international students from a selection of countries across the globe.
The Global Futures Scholarships for South East Asia are open to applicants domiciled in: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Please note: the application form will be made available once you've applied for an eligible course and received an offer.
Each award comprises £10,000 for the first year of study with a further £10,000 in the second and third years. Continuation of the award is conditional on attainment of 60% in final exams and assessments each year. Scholarships will be awarded as a discount on published international tuition fees.
You must be taking one of the following qualifications:
- A-level
- IBDP
- Singapore Integrated Programme
- STPM (Malaysia)
- UEC (Malaysia)
- Indian Standard XII
- Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, predicted and achieved grades, and your online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.
Awardees will be selected based on academic merit, but we'll try to achieve a balance in the allocation of the awards by gender, domicile, qualification type and course of study.
Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam.
To be considered as domiciled, you must have predominantly lived there during the last three years.
You must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2026 and have, or be working towards, one of the following qualifications:
- A-Levels (including international A-Levels)
- Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
- IB Diploma
- Integrated Programme (Singapore)
- STPM (Malaysia)
- UEC (Malaysia)
- Indian Standard XII (when taken in an eligible South East Asian country)
You must have a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time course at Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ and submit an online scholarship application form by 21 April 2026.
Applications will be assessed on any previous exams, predicted grades in the above-listed qualifications and the strength of the personal statement.
You must be self-funded (not sponsored).
You must have selected The University of Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ as your 'Firm' UCAS choice by 29 May 2026.
The application form will be emailed to all eligible applicants shortly after an academic offer is made. Offers will be made by 22 May 2026, and will be conditional on academic performance as outlined in the full terms and conditions below.
Not eligible
- Applicants for Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, or any courses with an integrated foundation year.
- Applicants who've previously studied at a higher education institution or high school in the UK.
- Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes.

Master’s awards
We're proud to offer more than 200 merit-based master’s scholarships to prospective international students from a range of countries across the globe.
The South East Asia scholarships are worth £10,000 and will be awarded as a discount on the published overseas tuition fees.
The awards are open to applicants domiciled in: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam; in addition to the other eligibility criteria outlined in the full terms and conditions.
These scholarships of £10,000 will be awarded based on academic excellence and the quality of your online application form.
Scholarships will be awarded as a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
- Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam.
- To be considered as domiciled, you must have predominantly lived there during the last three years.
- You must hold an unconditional or conditional offer to study a full-time, on-campus master’s course at The University of Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ starting in September 2026; and submit an online scholarship application form by 30 April 2026. The form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.
- You'll be considered based on academic merit and the quality of your scholarship application, but we'll try to achieve a balance by gender, domicile and course in the allocation of the awards.
- You must be self-funded (not sponsored).
Not eligible
- Applicants for MBA, MPhil, Master of Architecture (MArch), Architecture and Urbanism (MA), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Clinical Medicine and Dentistry degrees.
- Some ‘Master’s by Research’ courses are also ineligible (see terms and conditions below).
- Applicants who've studied a bachelor’s degree outside of the eligible countries in South East Asia.
- Blended, part-time and distance learning programmes (including programmes hosted by one of The University of Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ’s Global Centres).

At Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ we are mindful of the concerns of prospective Malaysian students regarding opportunities to improve career prospects by gaining work experience post-graduation in the UK. Our Careers Service has including the new which will offer Ô°ÇøÒùÂÒ graduates the possibility of staying in the UK for two further years to work, or look for work, at any skill level. Many of our undergraduate programmes feature the opportunity for industrial/professional experience and the offers fantastic support to budding entrepreneurs.
